If you read the bullet points above, where the various types of rights are listed, you would have seen Resale Rights (RR) and Resell Rights. They sound like the same thing and very often you will see the terms used interchangeably, which is confusing since they do not mean the same thing.

In the ‘old days’ of direct mail they were sometimes called ‘reprint rights’ too, and every now and then you’ll hear this term on the internet for resell rights.

Here’s a quick explanation of the differences between those two rights so we can move on.

If you have Resale Rights with a product, you will have a license to sell the product to other people…that’s all. You do not have the right to sell the license to your customers, either bundled in the product you are selling or separately. In a nutshell, your customers will have the right to buy it from you, but not the right to sell it to their customers…personal use only.

Master Resell Rights, on the other hand, allow you to sell both the product and those rights to your customers. This is a very popular set of rights because your customers will have the same rights you have and can sell those valuable rights along with the product or separately.

One of the most common products with Resale Rights is ebooks and they can be found all over the Web, all promising amazing results for your knowledge, if you read them, or fantastic improvements to your bank account if you sell them on your sales pages.

A large number of ebooks with Resale Rights are private label rewrites and you might find yourself one of hundreds attempting to sell essentially the same product. This fact could have a definite negative benefit if you were planning on attracting affiliates to increase your opportunities for sales. Most of them might already be selling a version of the same product.

Another facet to consider, if your product has been around for a while, is the very real possibility that it is being given away for free as bonuses on sales pages or in any, or all, of the giveaway sites that spring up all over the Web everytime the temperature changes.

One effective way to avoid all these barriers to your success with Resale Rights products is to check out your competition in your niche. Use Google or any other search engine you like. If you see the product all over the place, don’t go to the trouble of designing a sales page and trying to make an income with that ebook.

The best way, of course, is to create your own ebooks with original material, either rewritten from good private label articles (which you can freely alter and edit in any way and put your own name on as author) or from your own research and knowledge. Browsers and potential customers are looking for either solutions to problems or new content. Provide it and you will be successful in your own right.

Do not neglect to check out your rights to a product thoroughly before adding it to your business inventory. A clear explanation should be attached with each product you buy. If it is missing or not crystal clear, email the author and ask for clarification. If you don’t get it, ask for a refund. This book is a GUIDE only - we have no responsibility for any action or reaction that comes from you not reading each individual license you buy.

Do not walk blindly into legal problems down the line. Confusion about the differences between Resale Rights and Resell Rights, sometimes called Standard Resell Rights, exists all over the Internet. Don’t fall into that trap in your rush to get your product online and making sales.
