The only stable concept in the rapidly moving Internet Marketing field has become a constantly repeated mantra: “The value is in the list!”

Your subscriber list is your marketing arena and more valuable to you and your online success than anything else you can create. Without it, you do not have anyone to market to.

There are several ways to increase your list, but most marketers rely on the squeeze page to do the job for them. A successful squeeze page, or landing page, can build a highly targeted list of subscribers.

That page should contain a statement about your privacy practices and your promises not to sell or giveaway email addresses to ease customer fears about being spammed to death.

A basic requirement of successful squeeze pages is a carefully crafted set of benefits the subscriber will receive after providing a name and valid email address. When the subscriber completes the double opt-in process already discussed, you can begin your marketing campaign

A normal squeeze page has a similar format to most of the others you can find all across the Internet. The eye-grabber has to be a headline that intrigues the reader enough to get at least a scan of the rest of the squeeze page to find out what you are talking about or offering.

The concepts discussed earlier about creating great titles for your viral articles apply here, too. Use bold headlines, bulleted lists of benefits and an opt-in form that takes your subscriber to a page that tells them to check their email to verify their email address. You’ve probably done this 50 times yourself.

Between the new subscriber clicking “submit” on your opt-in form and actually getting to your download or sales page, sits your autoresponder sending the double opt-in link that keeps you out of spam trouble. Cool.

One of the major mistakes new marketers often make is forgetting that a squeeze page has only one purpose…to get visitors to complete the opt-in form and click “Submit.” That’s it! In the rush of list-building with content it is easy to stray away from your only purpose here. That means no links to other pages or anything at all. Provide all that on your sales or information page.

The popularity of the Web 2.0 marketing resources is becoming a regular feature of new squeeze pages and visitors are responding very well to video

or audio marketing messages. These popular new techniques create a more personal message that actually creates a friendly and warm feeling that lessens the normal sales resistance most Internet browsers have developed.

There’s software available, some free, to make the video or audio creation easy to do without requiring expensive studios or equipment. A good way to find out the best software to use is to just ask in any forums you belong to or by asking for recommendations from your newsletter or blog members.

Finally, if you are still unsure about how to create a squeeze page, copy success. Make a file of ones you’ve been on that motivated you to click the “Submit” button. Take those examples apart and see how they did it:

  • Check out the wording and format of the headline
  • Take note of any subheading used
  • Notice headline and text colors
  • Was there a graphic header at the top?
  • How many bullets were used?
  • Where was the opt-in form located?
  • Was there a privacy statement on the page?
  • Did the squeeze page have testimonials on it?

You get the idea…learn your lessons from examining how the “Gurus” do it. The really successful ones don’t make many mistakes and definitely do not waste their time with techniques that do not make them money.
